Cape Coral Parks & Recreation Department Receives Excellence Awards

The City of Cape Coral Parks & Recreation Department recently received two professional excellence awards from the Florida Recreation & Parks Association including the 2009 Agency Excellence Award for Category II (agencies serving populations between 150,000-199,999), and the 2009 Print Media Excellence Award.

The Association's Agency Excellence Award is given annually to recognize and honor the state's most outstanding Community Park, Recreation and/or Leisure Service agencies for excellence in Parks & Recreation management. Judging was based on each agency's performance in a wide variety of areas including parks development, recreational, ADA, aquatic and athletic programming, leisure and cultural arts, fitness and wellness activities, promotion of programs, administration, and citizen involvement. The Agency Excellence Award is the highest honor an agency can receive at the state level.

The Excellence Award for Print Media is presented annually to the agency who has significantly contributed to the public's increased awareness and recognition of public parks, recreation and leisure service programs. This year's award was presented to Cape Coral Parks & Recreation for the special Parks insert that appeared in the summer 2009 issue of the City's quarterly newsletter, On the Move.

"We are extremely pleased to be honored with these awards by the Florida Recreation & Parks Association," said Steve Pohlman, Cape Coral Parks & Recreation Director. "Our team works very hard throughout the year to provide a wide range of recreational opportunities and quality parks for citizens of all ages, interests and economic capabilities. It is a terrific achievement to be recognized for these efforts and acclaimed as one of the best Parks and Recreation departments in the state of Florida."

Both excellence awards were officially presented on August 27 at the Florida Recreation and Park Association's Annual Awards Ceremony in Orlando. For more information about the Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Department or to sign up for upcoming programs, visit or call (239) 573-3128.
